>”A valued member of the team”

The CAB summer social I’ve been talking about, the one that I couldn’t go to due to a lack of wheelchair access? The manager has made the decision to cancel it because of that. We will have another social somewhere else and probably somewhen else too because of the timescale involved.

I talked with her this afternoon and she had already made that decision; it surprised me as I had thought there was nothing that could be done about it (which I told her). She kept apologising and told me that she had assumed the people organising it had looked into that. I too had assumed that and really it wasn’t anyones fault, just a case of not thinking.

The other workers will be told that it was a decision made by the manager as the boat would not be accessible to all and an e-mail has been sent to almost everyone stating that. I’m paraphrasing but basically she told me that she will not allow this trip to go ahead as by its nature it excludes “a valued member of the team.” And also that several people had told her they would not go if it wasn’t suitable for me to go.

I can’t describe how I feel about this. I am pleased but I can’t find the words to describe it properly… my depression is, i think, the culprit for making it a kind of pleased, but… feeling if that makes any sense at all.
