Chicken and Roasted Veg
Chicken and Roasted Veg

This is one of my absolute favourite meals but one I rarely make.

I roughly chopped half an orange pepper (I usually have red but they didn’t have any), some potatoes and some mushrooms.  Put in a pan with some olive oil and garlic granules then placed a chicken on top and roasted the lot in the one pan.  I know some people baste etc but I pretty much put it in the oven and apart from looking impatiently several times to see how much longer on the timer that’s all I do till the tinger goes.

Yummy.

And for the days when the chopping etc is too much Sainsburys frozen sliced mushrooms and frozen mixed peppers do almost as good a job.  Seriously cheaper as well.

Get blinds for my bedroom and possibly the lounge

…has been completed!

I have lovely blinds up in my bedroom now.  I’ve been saying I’ll do that since I moved into this flat (3 years ago) so it’s great to finally get that sorted.  Just waiting for the weekend when hopefully my parents will come and take the old curtains down… three years isn’t bad for something that went up temporarily, right?!

I decided against blinds for the lounge, the window isn’t big enough to bother covering it really so I figured I’d save my money.

>Thing a Day 2009 – Day Three: Knitted Bookmark

>I was in the mood to knit a bracelet for my project today.  But I couldn’t find the stuff I wanted to knit with.  The other project I had in mind was a bookmark but I didn’t feel like doing papercrafts tonight.  And I did want to knit.  Hence, knitted bookmark.

Basically find a remnant of yarn (this is leftover from a scarf I knitted last year).  And a pair of needles.  Cast on six stitches and knit until it looks long enough – I held it up against a book a couple of times to check.  Cast off.  I had the two yarn ends tied together and may add a bead for decoration if I have one big enough to go on there.

Knitted bookmark on top of a book. It's a self stripping yarn (Paton's Symphony) in blue, yellow and red with hints of purple. It's pretty much come out with the blue all but uniformly down one side, the red down the other and the yellow in the middle which surprised me.

>Thing a Day 2009 – Day Two: Paper Yarn

>

I’m taking a contemporary knitting class.  And one of the things we’ve talked about knitting with is paper.  So today I had a go at making some yarn out of paper.  That took less time than I thought so I also tried adding it into my knitting project.

I’m knitting a wall hanging with anything I can get my hands on that might be vaguely knittable and is green.  So far I’ve used ric rac, ribbon, raffia and tapestry wool.  I also intend to try sequins, gift ribbon, plastic bags, and cross stitch thread. We’ve also talked about how to add beads to your knitting so I might try that too.

Anyway, paper intrigued me.  The tutor originally mentioned tissue paper but I don’t have any that’s green and it struck me as easily ripped.  And I do have a load of green a4 paper which seemed slightly more robust.  So out came the pinking shears and the pritt stick.  I cut a load of stips and glued them end to end.  It definitely looked pretty good.

It does rip easily, I ripped it a couple of times when I was first trying it out.  And I really hate how messy it looks when knitted.  I think I cut the strips much too thick… they weren’t easy to knit with and I’m wondering if thinner might be easier/better.  I will probably rip it back.

But I am very pleased I gave this a go.

>Thing A Day 2009 – Day One: Twitter

>(cross posted to Thing a Day)

My first project for Thing a Day 2009 – new images and design for my Twitter Feed (FunkyFairy22) I am also planned that one day I will do a new layout on my blog as a thing. Whether or not that will be based around these images and layout I’m not sure yet.

This is the new background I made for my twitter page - it's two shades of blue. Darker background and lighter hints which vary a bit. I used the "Stained Glass" filter in photoshop to achieve this

I don't use a photo of me as my icon on twitter, i have a name tag. This is the new one and it's completely different. More design-y and says "Em" this time
