Day Zero is arguably the home of the 101 in 1001 project online
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).
Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past – frequently simple goals such as New Year’s resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organising and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.
Some common goal setting tips:
1. Be decisive. Know exactly what you want, why you want it, and how you plan to achieve it.
2. Stay Focussed. Any goal requires sustained focus from beginning to end. Constantly evaluate your progress.
3. Welcome Failure. Frequently, very little is learned from a venture that did not experience failure in some form. Failure presents the opportunity to learn and makes the success more worthy.
4. Write down your goals. It clarifies your thinking and reinforces your commitment.
5. Keep your goals in sight. Review them frequently, and ensure that they are always at the forefront of your thinking.
My goal/day 1001 will be Monday 12th September 2011
- Read Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
- Read the first Swallows and Amazons book and the rest if they’re any good
Read War and Peace Complete Thing a Day one year
- Complete NaKniSweMo
- Make a serious attempt at learning to Crochet
- Wheel myself a minimum of mile at least 5 days out of 7 for three months
- Complete a 365 photo project
- Complete NaBloPoMo
- Go to the cinema once a month for a year
- Bake something once a month for a year
Go to bed before midnight every night for a month
- Buy a new more appropriate lifejacket
- Write a minimum of 1000 words (non blog) a day for three months
- Write the fanfiction that’s been buzzing around in my head since February 2008
- Complete the Southern Cross Novel Challenge (NaNo in June thing)
- Take a crafty course at the arts centre
Enter some creative writing competitions
- Create a proper knitting pattern of my own and publish it online/on ravelry
- Work on some light weight training again
- Go to see Wicked the Musical
- Do a 10K
- Complete the race for life each year – FAILED
- Complete a knitting project every month (this can be one started previously, doesn’t need to be done totally in the month) – FAILED
- Go to the theatre once a month for a year.
- Read 250 new to me books over the 1001 days
- Go swimming an average of twice a month
- Make a serious and continued effort to become A Writer
- Go to see We Will Rock You
Join a Stitch n Bitch type group Take meds everyday for six months
- Improve my grammar
Read 100 books in a year Spend at least one day a month away from the computer for a year
- Spend at least one day a week away from the computer for a month
Try to have one day a week where I don’t eat in front of the computer for three months.
- Start and Finish my Tenacious Cross Stitch
- Go back to Scandinavia
- Go shopping at hobbycraft
- Make more time for crafts
- Drink more water
- Organise my paperwork
- Sort the black hole known as “under the bed”
Reorganise all of the flat and possibly get some parts decorated.
- Get blinds for my bedroom and possibly the lounge
- Investigate getting a cleaner rather than carers
- Visit Wales
Get emotional/bored eating under better control
- Find out from mum exactly how much stuff she has of mine from pre uni, get it back and sort it out
- Have a go at mosaic making
- Have a go at weaving
Read Catch 22
- Stop stressing about finances so much.
- Spend some time on the coast
- at the end of the 1001 days donate £1 to charity for every goal not met
- at the end of the 1001 days treat myself to something special. Budget – the number of goals met x £2 each
- Start a memory/keepsake box
Go three weeks without eating chocolate or drinking coke
- be consistent with all goals on this list once started which aren’t time limited.
- Watch all the dvds I have but haven’t watched
- read books almost as soon as I buy them rather then buying them than not always reading them
- watch dvds asap after buying them
- only buy yarn if I either have a project in mind or my stash is running low
- use up half of my current craft supplies (non yarn) before buying more.
- Get back into the habit of taking better care of how I dress/look
- reconnect/get back in touch with old friends
- go back to Stoke to visit
- Go to France again
- learn to knit socks
- get the hang of circular knitting
- Organise photos properly
- create/buy notecards using some of my photos
- send post to one or two friends every month throughout the 1001 days – FAILED
- get more consistent when replying to e-mails
go on a random day out
- watch Lord of the Rings
- design and make my own cross stitch sampler
- make crafty gifts for more than 50% of people one Christmas
- make more of an effort to recycle
Buy fewer new books (use the library, charity shops and borrow them from people instead)
- come up with a funky and appropriate bag which can live on my powerchair safely and securely
- make more of an effort to actually walk
- sort my sofa out so I can use it more
- Lose some weight
Buy new cloth pads
- paint my nails more often
- spend an entire day in my pyjamas
- write about my school days
- Go to a planetarium
- Go Whale/Dolphin Watching
- Go snorkelling again
- Swim 1KM in one session again and maintain approx that level of fitness
- Write down everything I spend for 1 month
- Buy new bedding
- Get a book published
Visit the Ashmolean
- Make and eat a variety of proper dinners consistently for one month
- Remember and mark people’s birthdays
- Play mini golf
- Research family history/genealogy
- On day 1001 publish a new 101 in 1001 list
