April 2013 Readathon

Today is the Readathon!

I’ll be updating this entry on and off throughout the day with what I’m reading and my thoughts etc. Currently I’m one book behind where I need to be to hit my 2013 reading goal according to goodreads. My goal is 150 books and I’ve read 46 this year. My goal was lower but it became very obvious it was a bit low. This goal however might be a bit of a stretch. Lots of short books today I think.

I’ll be starting an hour late I suspect. And I keep changing my mind about what’s first.

I’ve read for an hour so far. I finished a book I started yesterday – Home Front Girls by Rosie Goodwin – I had about 135 pages of it left. I received a review copy of it from the publisher so I’ll be writing a full review in the next few days. For now I’ll just say that it kept surprising me and I really enjoyed it. I had decided that I’d leave all of my WIP books for the Readathon but just as I found this hard to put down yesterday I decided I couldn’t leave it and read something else. I had to know what happened!

It’s not the Readathon until I’ve read a Babysitters Club book. So I read a BSC mystery. Claudia and the Clue in the Photograph by Ann M Martin. That one definitely showed its age in a few places and was pretty silly. But as unrealistic as it was it was also kinda fun to read.

I then started listening to the audiobook of The Sense of An Ending by Julian Barnes. I listened to about 30 minutes of it lying on my bed and then I dozed off for another 30 or so minutes. You know when you start a book and pretty much straight away know its gonna be really good? This was like that for me.

I just finished reading The Well of Lost Plots by Jasper Fforde. That’s the third one in that series I’ve read in the last couple if weeks after being given the first one for World Book Night (I was given it a week early). I’m really enjoying the series but preferred the first two. Time for a break from it I think. This was the last of my WIP books and I read about 53 pages to finish it.

I took a break to mooch online and then make some dinner (southern fried chicken, new potatoes and peas in case you were interested. One of my favourites and it was yummy.). I’ve been listening to more of The Sense of An Ending. In total I’ve listened to 1 hour, 43 minutes of it now.

I suspect I have time for one more reading session before my uncaffeinated body demands sleep. (Yes this coca cola obsessed crip has now gone 3 days without any. Win.). I’m debating between a couple of books. Whatever I finish next will be my 50th book of the year. I’d really like to hit that goal tonight.

I finished my 50th book of the year!

It was Things I’ve Learned From Knitting (Whether I Wanted To Or Not) by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee. And it’s made me want to get stuck back into knitting properly again just like I’d hoped it would. It made me laugh too. I’ve never really read her blog but I probably should check it out. When I’m not so tired however.

According to Goodreads I am now 3 books ahead of schedule for my 150 books goal. I’m really pleased about that because I think May will be a month of reading long books.

and also with the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself?
Anyway keep up the excellent quality writing, it’s rare to see a great blog like this one nowadays.
