Self Care Sunday
I’m not sure what form self care has taken this week that I can blog about. I’ve been getting into quite a good routine, taking my baclofen and sertraline (muscle relaxant and anti-depressant) everyday, writing everyday – although not the stuff I’d really like to be writing everyday, getting a break from my wheelchair every afternoon or early evening, a fair amount of stretching but not everyday and some form of exercise most days (usually a very small amount and some days it’s been more of a phoning it in thing). But at the same time I’ve also had a brand new PC which is very very exciting but has…

Going to London
Wednesday, mid morning my mobile rang. It was a friend of mine who works for one of the organisations I volunteer with. She was calling in her professional capacity with good news. A project I organised and ran has been shortlisted for some form of award. The ceremony is in London, in February. Did I want to go? Obviously I said yes straight away. We chatted a bit more and then said goodbye. I spent some time looking up the venue online and being excited and then got on with my day. Yesterday, a bit before 5pm my mobile rang again. It was still in my bag where I’d been…

A Bookish Thursday Thirteen: Thirteen Books I Plan To Read Soon (ish)
I really enjoyed last week’s Thursday Thirteen so I thought I’d do it this week as well and continue with the theme of books Here are thirteen books I plan to read soon (ish). I have to say soon ish because we all know that quite frankly something else is bound to catch my eye and change that order before I actually manage to read all thirteen. But that said I did venture into Waterstones today and venture back out again without buying any books. Shockingly enough I wasn’t even tempted. Then I had a phone conversation about going somewhere where there’s a promise of a goody bag full of…

Love and the Goddess by Mary Elizabeth Coen
I was sent a free copy of Love and The Goddess by Mary Elizabeth Coen in exchange for providing an honest review here on my blog. (Cover of Love and the Goddess. It’s a yellowy gold colour and has a gold swirly pattern all over it. The tag line reads: One Woman, One Myth, Three Goddesses.) If you’ve read my reviews for a while you’ll know that one thing I like about being a book blogger is the opportunity to take a risk on something I wouldn’t normally pick for myself. Reading the synopsis this is definitely one of those books but I was glad I took the risk and…

Self Care Sunday
One of the things I want to do on my blog this year is bring back the “Self Care Sunday” feature I did for a month or two in 2013. I think it’s been very useful for me in a number of ways but particularly with my mental health. It’s just like a weekly check in with myself about how well I’ve done at taking care of myself in the past week. I am not very good at that. I am very good at taking care of others, listening to their problems and their woes and helping with solutions – it’s the CAB adviser in me, someone mentions being low…

Thirteen Authors I’d Like to Read More by in 2014
I love to read. I love new books and new authors but I also love to return to old favourites either new books by authors I’ve enjoyed before or rereading books I’ve read before. I also love reading blogs and am partial to taking part in the occasional blog meme. So we have the first in what I hope to make a regular series. I’m calling it A Bookish Thursday Thirteen. This is thirteen authors I’d like to read more of this year. It’s in no order other than how they came to mind. Holly Smale – Geek Girl and Model Misfit were two of the best books I read…

2014
I’ve been thinking a lot about the start of a new year and New Years resolutions and such like. I’m not making any. I’m also not setting a focus word for this year. I know that in 2012 my focus word was courage. I can’t remember if I had one for 2013 or what it was. If I had one I didn’t blog it. And if 2014 had one it would be confidence I think. Or maybe write. But I don’t really want to declare anything. I’m trying to be more chilled and not stress myself out unnecessarily. So why set New Years resolutions or focus that I’m unlikely to…
