Not Exactly the Start I Wanted.
2016 isn’t getting the start I wanted it to have but luckily it’s also not getting the start I thought yesterday it was going to have.
I had planned to read lots today and go visit my mum for lunch and do crafts. To do lots of writing and make a start on my various goals for the year which are mostly writing related. I was going to go out and get fresh air and maybe do some exercise.
But then on Wednesday morning I woke feeling like I was getting a cold. I made it to to lunch with friends and dragged round Sainsburys after. By the evening it was clear I was really going down with one and by last night I was coughing so much and so hard and feeling so lousy I was beginning to suspect I’d have to go to OOH GP today. My throat and my sides hurt from the force of coughing. However I seem a little better today so that’s not been necessary.
Today has been a low key recovery day though.
I slept late, had a slow shower and then Mum popped in with lunch for me (and tidied my flat I bit). We had a quick look at my new knitting looms before she left.
And although I’ve not been reading I have been listening to the audiobook of Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix by JK Rowling. As I wrote a few weeks ago I’m taking part in Potter Binge and trying to read/listen to all seven by the end of January. Which given how many hours I have left of this book and how many hours the final two are may be something of a challenge (It’s somewhere between 60 and 70 hours I think, although I listen to them at 1.5x speed which will help)
I’m really enjoying the audiobooks but listening to them continues to give me a different perspective on them to previously. I’m still undecided whether that’s because it’s the audio or if it’s a case of my being older and more aware of social justice as a concept about more than disability (I’ve always been aware of the disability side of social justice even when I was a child, had never heard of the term and didn’t have the words to describe it). I’m not sure I like Mrs Weasley any more!

I hope your year keeps looking up. I love Harry Potter. I am excited for JK Rowlings new movie in the wizard world.

Here from the blog challenge. Love Harry Potter! It’s hard to get going when you’re sick. So allow yourself the rest. You probably need it.

I hope you feel better soon. Too bad you are starting the New Year sick – but you’ve still managed to accomplish something. I used to listen to audiobooks on long car trips but haven’t in a long time. You do experience a book differently listening to it, I found. Perhaps something I should get back to doing.

Hi Emma,
I do hope you feel better!
I had that same feeling about dinner, something I struggle to prepare for my brother and mother. I didn’t have any carrots or onions so I couldn’t make pot roast in the crockpot. I decided to make scalloped potatoes. I was too short and my last potato was small! I ended up making a salad, which was kind of like antipasto so we would have enough dinner to eat. But it wasn’t how I imagined our first meai would go! I’m glad you are starting to feel better. How great that you like audio books! My first audio book will be coming out in a few weeks!!!
