    An Undecided Thursday Thirteen

For this week’s Thursday Thirteen I thought I’d write a list of Thirteen Things I could write about.  Several of them are things I thought about writing a list of but decided against. Some of them I’ve written about before and thinking about it I’m not sure there’s enough change to make a new list worthwhile. One I started writing but got bogged down in. And basically I was just undecided. So here’s the vague list (with a few added to round it up to 13) in case it’s useful for me or anyone else in the future. Thirteen things I’ve could have written about today but didn’t. Things I…

    Blogging is educational, who knew?!

The journalism course I’m doing has started a module on blogging and online journalism. This is excellent because the acivity we’re working on in our session today is to start a blog or update a blog. So I can waffle away on here and have it be educational. More time when I get home to watch rubbish tv and read rather than blog. Winning at life. It was suggested I could help some of them but so far that’s mostly consisted of recommending WordPress. So I was trying to think what my top tip for blogging is. What might help someone who is new to blogging? There’s a lot of…

    Random Bulllet Points of Life

For those little things worth sharing and remembering but which don’t need a full blog entry to themselves Have started decluttering my books. The bookshelf in the lounge is still pretty much overflowing apart from one completely empty shelf but to me it looks really empty. It’s bitterly cold but actually it’s only as cold as it should be at this time of your CAB social was last night. The food was nice and I enjoyed seeing people I don’t see often but it was probably the most inaccessible allegedly accessible place I’ve been in a long time. Dad is due round any minute to help me use my standing…

Reading Down My TBR Pile (2016 Edition) – Week Two

Not very much reading this week.  It’s been all about the audiobooks and Harry Potter in particular. I finished listening to Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince on Thursday.  I got through that much quicker than I expected  and on the whole I enjoyed it.  It was a little weird on Thursday to be listening to the end of the book where Dumbledore dies and there’s all that stuff with Snape and it’s emotional when the news had just broken that Alan Rickman had died. On Friday I started listening to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.  How cool is the cover on this audio version? I like it…

In defense of First World Problems

I’m annoyed. I’ve seen a few blogs over the last few weeks suggesting that a good new year’s resolution would be to ditch First World Problems.  We should ask ourselves about our worries and decide if they really matter, recognise how lucky we are to not have more serious problem and then move on. But here’s the thing. I had what some might consider a first world problem this week. Many people would hear what I was stressing about and wonder what the hell I was worried about. I’d found a solution, it was something I’d been thinking about doing anyway and I could afford it so why was I…

A Few Blog Entries and Articles I’ve Enjoyed This Week

Because sometimes you read something and you’ve just got to share. Dear Daddy – Amazing video about owning your words and the responsibility we all have to speak up rather than laughing things off because they’re small and jokes and don’t matter. When I Say Can’t – lately I’ve been dealing with someone in my life who keeps telling me to be more positive about my disability and any hint that I can’t do something is met with “yes you can.” It’s annoying as hell because I have to deal with them and they don’t know me well.  This post by Hannah is brilliant at explaining why sometimes, Can’t is…

    Snapshot

When I write a blog (or a tweet or facebook post) I’m writing about a moment.  What I write is a snapshot.  It shows what happened and how I feel about it right then. And it shows what I want to share. It doesn’t show anything that I’m worried may compromise my own privacy or safety or that of anyone else. It doesn’t show every option I’ve considered or every word someone said when I’m writing about doing things or conversations. I’m about blogging details without being too exact or too boring. But I do sometimes use my blog as a recording device for my own record. It doesn’t show…

    Thirteen TV Shows I Love

I’ve been trying to spend less time online.  Ideally I want some wind down time between turning off the computer and going to bed.  Crafts in front of the TV (or even just TV) does that well for me but it’s not sticking as a habit too well at the moment. A while ago I watched a few episodes of Criminal Minds and enjoyed them. Then I sort of forgot about it but this week I’ve been rediscovering it and I’m hooked. The same is true of a lot of TV shows so I thought for this week’s Thursday Thirteen I’d write a list of TV Shows I enjoy.  Just…

    The Curse of the UFO

I’m a crafter. And I’m an ideas person, not a doing person. And I’m a procrastinator. Which means I’m affected by the curse of the UFO. In crafty/internet terms UFO is the term for an Unfinished Object. Usually one that’s been abandoned or not exactly abandoned but put aside to go back to at some point soon for the lure of the more exciting other project. I have a scarf that I started a few days before my sister’s wedding. It’s still not finished and she got married in September.  I put aside another project to start it (in part because the other project was a baby blanket for my…
