Reading Down My TBR Pile (2016 Edition) – Week Six

I didn’t do a lot of reading last week (although I did listen to part of an audiobook – Lady Oracle by Margaret Atwood which I’m finding intriguing and hope to finish this week.) apart from ridiculous amounts of fanfic and then all of a sudden on Saturday I binge read many short things on Saturday, mostly on the trains to and from Birmingham. I finished Waiting for You by Catherine Miller which I mentioned reading in the last of these posts.  Full review here.  TL;DR I enjoyed it. I picked up The Ladybird Book of Mindfullness for a flick through whilst in Foyles and ended up skim reading the…

Reading Down My TBR Pile (2016 Edition) – Week Five

I’ve read one book this week and most of a second.  I’ve also downloaded the short story next installment of a novella I read at Christmas – it was free so why not? This week I plan to do a lot of reading so if all goes according to plan I’ll have a lot to write about in next week’s update. I read Star Trek: Titan – Sight Unseen by James Swallow.  And I really enjoyed it.  It was a good reminder of how much I enjoy Star Trek books.  I love this this has a mix of Star Trek: The Next Generation main characters, some bit part characters from…

Reading Down My TBR Pile (2016 Edition) – Week Four

I’m linking this post up with both this week’s It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? over on The Book Date and with the January check in for the Read Your Own Damn Books Challenge over on Estella’s Revenge. I read one book this week. Spectacles by Sue Perkins.  That’s her memoir and I listened to the audiobook of it.  She reads that herself and I have to say that really increased my enjoyment of the book – it felt in a way like she was telling me the stories, anecdotes and memories herself.  Plus it was laugh out loud funny in places and more so when she’s giggling quietly whilst…

Reading Down My TBR Pile (2016 Edition) – Week Three

This week has been a good reading week! Lots of books read this week and they were all good. Lots of long sessions of reading too – I’ve been missing those and I’m glad to get back to them. First I read Wickham Hall by Cathy Bramley.  I’ve now read all four of her books and enjoyed them.  It was definitely worth waiting for this to come out as a whole novel rather than reading it in 4 monthly installments.  I don’t seem to enjoy books as much like that but it is very hard to resist them when you know it’s an author you enjoy so much.  It was…

Reading Down My TBR Pile (2016 Edition) – Week Two

Not very much reading this week.  It’s been all about the audiobooks and Harry Potter in particular. I finished listening to Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince on Thursday.  I got through that much quicker than I expected  and on the whole I enjoyed it.  It was a little weird on Thursday to be listening to the end of the book where Dumbledore dies and there’s all that stuff with Snape and it’s emotional when the news had just broken that Alan Rickman had died. On Friday I started listening to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.  How cool is the cover on this audio version? I like it…

Reading Down My TBR Pile (2016 Edition) – Week One

Here is my weekly update into what I’ve been reading. I’m linking up with It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? with this post. Not as much actual reading of actual physical or ebooks this week as I’d planned.  I’m beginning to suspect I’m not very good at readathons over a long period like Bout of Books because this isn’t the first time I’ve planned to do it and then struggled spectacularly to meet my goal. So I didn’t manage an hour a day of reading (I did twice). Shorter more intense readathons like Dewey’s 24 hour readathon are good for me though.  The 24 in 48 readathon is next weekend…

    Books Books Books

I’m going to resurrect my Reading Down My TBR Pile posts this year and post an update each Monday about what I’ve been reading.  And linking those to the It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? linky over at The Book Date But that’s going to have to start next Monday because I’ve yet to finish a book this year. And I’m not sure what I read last week, it was mostly stuff online. I think I finished Coming Home for Christmas by Patricia Scanlan early last week. It was OK but didn’t blow me away. I enjoyed other books of hers much more.  I do wonder if Christmas books aren’t…

Reading Down My TBR Pile: Restart

Without the details and the reviews I’ve been posting in these previous entries here is a list of everything I’ve read since the last time I posted one of these Reading Down My TBR Pile updates.  Next Monday I will post a weekly update in the same format as the previous ones but it’s been too long and I can’t remember the details to get into them for these books.  In fact to be completely honest I’ve had to look this list up on Goodreads.  I might put a few comments in if I can remember The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame (audiobook on TBR since late last…

    State of the Blog

I didn’t have time to write my weekly reading down my TBR pile post on Monday last week. I was going to write a two week catch up post this week. But I’ve barely read anything – I didn’t finish a single book last week. So I wasn’t too bothered about writing it. I’ve yet to finish anything this week. I’d say I’ve got lots going on and I have but it’s not the full reason. I’ve got no motivation for books and audiobooks and ebooks. I’m reading loads of fanfic and stuff on message boards but not the actual books and that. I have a couple of review books…

Reading Down My TBR Pile – Week 16

My TBR pile has increased this week. I bought three books (two kindle, which I’ve read since buying them and one paperback), received one ebook for review (and requested another but have yet to hear back) and I downloaded a free classic from Project Gutenberg. In addition to the two books listed here I’ve listened to two thirds of an audiobook. It doesn’t feel like I’ve read much at all this week. Star Trek: New Frontier The Returned part 1 by Peter David ebook, 164 pages bought and read on the same day I love Peter David books. He’s one of my favourite authors and was the author of the…
