    >How to help an Emma up off of the floor

    >The thing with dealing with Emma’s, especially us crippled Emma’s, is that sometimes we like to have falls. Falls when transferring are particularly popular and a not uncommon subcategory of that type of fall is the one where the Emma lands on the footplates of the wheelchair.  Sometimes this is due to missing the seat of the wheelchair, other times its a simple loss of balance/trip/whatever and hit the ground or similar fall.  Either circumstance has the same results. When this happens with the Quickie manual wheelchair this causes particular problems due to the presence of ankle straps on the footplates.  This is due to the bolt/screw/thing thats a bit…

    >Lee Evans

    >Lee Evans last night was pretty funny at times.  But I couldn’t help thinking that some of the jokes were inappropriate as a pwd.  I don’t think he actually realised that they could be viewed that way to be honest which in a way makes it hard to be too mad about it all.  So that was disappointing as a whole.  Don’t get me wrong, I wanted to go and I’m glad we did go.  I did laugh a lot and I did enjoy a lot of it.  There was just something of a pall cast over it for me. Out of the four of us who went, I’m the…

    >Mamma Mia

    >Mamma Mia rocks.  Seriously.  Haven’t laughed that hard or that long at anything in the longest time.  And I can’t remember ever laughing that much at a film.  Someone said it’s a film for gay men.  I say I can see that.  But it’s also a film for cripples who love to laugh laugh laugh and who love musicals, feel good and silliness.  Well, for cripples and their families that is. They messed up in the cinema and ended up starting the film an hour later than they should have done.  And they did a shit job of keeping us informed.  Because basically the made no announcements or owt until…

    >Upcoming Events

    > After I came back from Birmingham on Saturday I couldn’t help thinking that was it, nothing much to look forward to in the near future. But then I stopped and actually thought about it – and I have plenty of “big things” arranged for the next few months. So given that and given the fact that I just arranged two more “big things” this year I’ve made myself a new page on my blog. It’s called Upcoming Events and is permanently linked on my sidebar. Looking at it, it seems the only month left of this year that doesn’t have an event to look forward to in it is…

    >Anything Can Happen

    >I travelled up to Birmingham yesterday and met up with my friend Rachel who I met at university and lived with for a year. It was really fun. Long, long day though. I ended up being out of the house for practically 12 hours (literally five minutes more and it would have been 12 hours). But so worth it. I had a wander round the shops while I was waiting for her, we went to Pizza Hut, had another wander round the shops together and then went to the theatre to see the Mary Poppins musical. Went to Starbucks for a drink after (couldn’t track down an accessible pub on…

    >Blogosphere, a Sucky Day, Postcards and Screw Bronze

    >I’ve been reading a few posts lately on other blogs where they share links to other blogs they love. And for the last few days I’ve been meaning to mention this so here goes. If you’ve not been over to Screw Bronze! and read the writings of Elizabeth McClung, you really really should. I had a really sucky day on Wednesday. But I also had a lovely surprise the knowledge of which (it was waiting for me at home) helped me through the suck and also most importantly made my day. It came as I was leaving the house but I didn’t get a chance to look at it properly…

    >Go, Go, Go, Joseph

    >I went to see Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat last Friday (week yesterday). It was amazing. I’ve seen it before, my parents gave me tickets for me and two friends to go for my birthday when I was 14 or maybe 15. Philip Schofield played Joseph then. Craig from Any Dream Will Do played Joseph this time and Anthony from the same show played the Pharoh. Anthony’s a local lad and it was very obvious there was a big crowd from here that had gone to Oxford (20 minutes by train away although we drove) to see it. That’s not why we went though, we went because I love…

    >Word of Advice

    >If you ever help me on one of the very rare occasions when I walk it really, really is a bad idea to make me laugh.  Of course, given that I laugh loads at really random things that most people probably wouldn’t find that funny that might be rather difficult. This is a lesson my siblings learnt the hard way this afternoon – Soph made an off the cuff random comment while I was walking with one of them on each side.  I really really laughed and so nearly crumbled to the floor.  I might be able to multitask but walking and laughing at the same time truly is beyond…

    >Monkey Girl

    >So someone mentioned to me earlier today that I haven’t seemed my usual cheerful self lately.  And we chatted and stuff, He recommends that I eat a banana everyday.  And I asked him why He goes: “Well, have you ever seen a sad monkey?” Best.  Depression. Advice. Ever. All content copyright Emma Crees, 2006 – 2012 unless otherwise stated http://writerinawheelchair.blogspot.com
